Candi Bar Opens On Mount Royal

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Oh Man! You gotta see this place. Montreal Nitelife Travel had the pleasure to attend Candi Bar on its opening weekend earlier this month.

Brought to you by the good people of A Gogo’s Lounge and Chez Serge, Candi Bar is a gem of venue in terms of themed decor and drinks.

The bar is actually made of 80,000 pieces of LEGO and slushy machines grace the back wall of the bar.

With gum-ball machines featured on the tables in the back section of the bar, the lighting in this venue is great.

LED lights in the floor and soft-fluorescent accents give this bar the look of all your favourite Skittles/Jolly Ranchers/Gummy Bears/Nerds and Startbust in one MOUTH. Ha!

You’ll know all the songs, for the DJ plays big tunes all night long. Candi Bar’s crowd thus far has been a mix of frequenters of Gogo’s and the industry people you usually see at a new popular bar in town.

And beware of those hot legs, they probably belong to your barstool!

Biggest Game Of The Year For Habs

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Tonight is the biggest game of the year for the Montreal Canadiens, winners of 24 Stanley Cups in their glorious 100-year history (eat that!).

The Canadiens are down 3-2 to the defending Stanley Cup champions, Pittsburgh Penguins, following a thrilling post-season run that saw them eliminate top-seeded Washington and push the Stanley Cup champion Penguins deep into the second round.

No one in town expected this year’s team to be playing playoff hockey in May. But with perseverance, a crazy goalie (Jaro Halak) and a unified team, Montreal has thus far been the Cinderella story of the NHL Playoffs.

So here you have it, tonight’s Game Six of the Eastern Conference semi-finals between the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins here in downtown Montreal at the Bell Centre tonight at 7 pm.

Police are shutting down a one-kilometer stretch of Ste-Catherine Street, and detouring bus and vehicle traffic during tonight’s game. The city’s main downtown strip will be open to pedestrians only.

Montreal Nitelife Travel has encountered and serviced many visitors throughout these playoffs and will continue tonight. Not only will MNT staff be attending the game with our clients, we are going to party the night away.

"I got a fever, and the only remedy is MORE CUPS"

“It’s really been fun to attend Habs games with fans of the opposition, as we have our own in-game banter going,” said Angelo D’Ambra, CEO of Montreal Nitelife Travel. “MNT fully supports the Montreal Canadiens, and the partying that comes with it.”

Canadiens go for 6th straight @ MSG

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

24 stanley cups

The Montreal Canadiens are in the Big Apple tonite taking on the New York Rangers, who are coming off a big win Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers. Pesky Ranger forward Sean Avery potted two goals and was first star in that 3-1 win on Sunday, which is huge for him considering he was a healthy scratch the game before.

On the Habs side of things, Montreal has the best record in the NHL since the Olympic break with a 6-1 record.

Sitting pretty in seventh spot with 76 points, Montreal can leap past the Flyers with a win tonite, but keep in mind the Flyers have played two less games than Montreal. The Rangers are in ninth place with 71 points, but with a Boston loss tonite in Carolina, New York can trade places with the eighth place Bruins.

Jaro Halak is in nets once again, after being in nets for the five straight Montreal wins. And even though some of our preferred clients in New York offered Montreal Nitelife Travel some tix for the game, we’re a little busy planning a WILD upcoming weekend for our clients here in Montreal. MNT will be all over the city this weekend, providing VIP hosting and hookups everywhere our partygoers go!

Montreal Nitelife CEO featured in B & G Canada! Part 1

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Montreal Nitelife Travel’s CEO Angelo D’Ambra was interviewed and featured in Bride & Groom Canada. After ten years in the business, D’Ambra has seen it all and spoke about his experiences with writer Jennifer Cox. Checkout an excerpt from the article in Bride & Groom Canada!

Bachelor and bachelorette parties have become a huge industry. While a night of bar-hopping and cabbing it home is still a classic way to celebrate a stag, today’s wedding parties are seeking out more adventurous and unique ways to honour their brides- and grooms-to-be (picture party buses with stripper poles and renting out floors of nightclubs).

Angelo D’Ambra of Montreal Nitelife has been helping organize bachelor and bachelorette parties for years. He told B&G about two of the wildest “dos” he’s planned, as well as offered his suggestions for one-of-a-kind stag and stagettes to make all of the festivities memorable.

What about the customary strip clubs? Are they still applicable to today’s stags? “With all the bachelor parties we’ve done, strip clubs make up 10-20% of the whole itinerary,” he explains. “There’s a misconception about what happens at bachelor parties – it’s not what you think. It can be, but generally, most people our age have experienced everything they wanted to when they were younger.”

Live Shows: RJD2, Muse, Julian Casablancas & Bon Jovi

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

If you are looking for musical acts in Montreal over the next couple weeks, be sure to check out the following shows, starting with tonite!

rjd2

RJD2 is playing at La Tulipe tonite. Originally from Ohio and now out of Philadelphia, Rjd2’s music is a collage of cut-and-paste hip-hop that combines disparate elements to make for soulful, moody portraits of the world.

In the spring of 2001, he made his first formal appearance as a solo artist on the Def Jux Presents… compilation, proving he could hold his own alongside such luminaries as Company Flow, El-P, Cannibal Ox, and Aesop Rock.

Rjd2’s debut album, Dead Ringer, followed on Def Jux in 2002. One of the best underground hip-hop releases of the year, it melded dirty samples and a classic approach to song structure for an end result that gave DJ Shadow, DJ Spooky, and Moby a run for their money.

RJD2’s new full length The Colossus was released on January 19, 2010 on his own label.

Muse will be in concert tonite at the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens.

Muse’s fusion of progressive rock, glam, electronica, and Radiohead-influenced experimentation is crafted by guitarist/vocalist Matthew Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer Dominic Howard.

Muse has toured Europe, America, Australia, and Southeast Asia in support of the album, and their dynamic stage performance (which won the band multiple awards for Best Live Act, including accolades from the NME Awards, the Q Awards, and the Vodafone Live Music Awards) was captured on 2008’s H.A.A.R.P. Live from Wembley. The trio spent the remainder of that year — as well as the early part of 2009 — in the recording studio, eventually emerging with the release of The Resistance in September.

Julian Casablancas, the famed singer of The Strokes, will be in coming to Montreal April 1st at The National in an effort to continue to promote his first solo album Phrazes for the Young. Casablancas has won over critics as the lead singer of one the most influential rock bands since 2000.

His solo effort has garnered much praise for it’s single 11th Dimension. Pitchfork magazine rated 11th Dimension the 66 best song of 2009 stating “‘11th Dimension’ is the strongest he’s (Julian’s) sounded since Room on Fire. It’s a blast of retro-futuristic synths, steam-rolling guitar licks, and slicing, dicing hi-hat, and the busy pulse of the production cuts through the detachment and manages to convey a sense of fun, as if he’s finally enjoying the creative experience”.

And yes, Bon Jovi is once again returning to Montreal for a two shows at the Bell Centre on March 19th-20th.

Montreal Nitelife Travel will not only be in attendance with their clients, they will be PARTYING all night long!

The mixed martial arts league confirmed the matchup Monday. Slice and Mitrione will meet on the undercard of UFC 113, headlined by Lyoto Machida’s rematch with Mauricio Rua.

Slice was signed by UFC last year, and he appeared on its television reality show before making his UFC heavyweight debut with a victory over Houston Alexander in December.

The top Montreal restaurants will be combining their top-rated chefs with 39 guest Portuguese chefs, as Portugal is the central theme of culinary type for this year’s edition.

What does this mean for nightlife? A lot of happy people will be hitting up all the best Montreal hotspots in town after enjoying dinner events everywhere. Make sure to head out to Old Montreal this weekend. Not only will the cool spots in Old Montreal West be livelier than usual, Saturday night is a MAJOR night in Old Montreal with Nuit Blanche in full effect.

The three major downtown Montreal spots for the Highlights Festival includes “Place Des Festivals”, Old Montreal and the Quay of the Old Port.

c_drawings1

What’s actually pretty cool at the Place Des Festivals is the gallery of sketches and drawings of legendary poet, novelist, singer, songwriter Leonard Cohen. Cohen, a Montreal native, only began publicly showing his artwork in 2007. And luckily it will be on display all the way to May 9th 2010.
